Welcome to CastawayLast message in Community posted on Sunday, February 3rd 2008 at 3:43pm GMT
Croeso i wefan newydd Theatr Gymunedol Castaway, grwp drama cymunedol Canolfan Celfyddydau Aberystwyth ar gyfer oedolion. Diolch am ymweld â'r wefan, ac am ymddiddori yng ngweithgareddau'r grŵp. Y mae croeso i chi rannu eich adborth a'ch syniadau gyda'n cymuned ar-lein, neu drwy ddefnyddio'r ddolen "anfon sylw" yn y golofn ochr. Byddwn yn ychwanegu mwy o ddeunydd yn Gymraeg maes o law.
Recently I received the sad news of the passing of Derek Bell.
Derek was a wonderful man. He was one of the original members of Castaway,
making his debut in our first full length production; The Sea in early 1992.
Derek gave some splendid performances for Castaway - notably the marvellously
eccentric Mustrum Ridcully in Lords and Ladies. Derek will be
sadly missed and our thoughts are with Dorothy and her family...
We are seeking new members who would like to take part in our next production. For more information, see Joining Castaway below. Castaway's last production was Tony Harrison's Passion, from his interpretation of the Mystery Plays, which ran for three performances in Llanbadarn Church - pictures and details will appear soon. Our next production is Return to Albion, which opens on Thursday 28th August at 7.45pm in the Arts Centre and runs for 2 nights. You can book tickets for Castaway productions from the Arts Centre box office in person or over the phone, or alternatively online from their website. Ubu Cuckolded
Well done everyone for an astonishing production! If you missed it, you should kick yourselves. Catrin and I were disappointed that we couldn't be in it, but I think we had a good excuse (for those who don't know, we were on our honeymoon for the last week of rehearsal!)
One quick question - if any one has any digital photos they want adding to the Ubu Cuckolded page on the website, could they please email them directly to me. My email address is can be easily figured out from : "jim dot finnis at gmail dot com". (I've deliberately written it weirdly like that so that evil automatic web readers can't grab it for their spam databases).

Who are CastawayCastaway was formed in 1991 by Ian Marsh, a graduate of Aberystwyth University's Drama department, and since 1997 has been run by David Blumfield, tutor in drama at the University. Over the years we have staged over 40 productions, from light entertainment for all the family such as Wind in the Willows and our own adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies; to intensely difficult plays like Sarah Kane's Crave and Phaedra's Love and Genet's The Balcony. In addition, we have been lucky enough to have works written for us by established playwrights such as Lucy Gough and Dic Edwards. What's on this WebsiteHere you can:
Joining CastawayCastaway is run as an Arts Centre course, and can be booked through the Arts Centre at the start of each season. We run three shows a year:
We're about to start work on Return to Albion, our new production, so we're accepting new members! If you want to take part, please buy a ticket for Castaway Community Theatre Adult Drama Course from the Arts Centre box office, and turn up to our first rehearsal session on Monday 2nd June at 7pm in the Arts Centre Studio . You'll need to be available for the regular weekly rehearsals on Mondays at 7pm, and also for quite a few other nights during the last few weeks of rehearsal. More details are available here on the Arts Centre website. All are welcome of any age and any level of ability - the vast majority of us have no prior stage experience, so we're open to any level of ability. There's no audition process either - if you join, you'll be on stage in the production; but if you're not too confident you can have as few lines as you wish. Our director, Dave Blumfield, is a tutor in the Department of Film, Theatre and TV Studies, and teaches people how to act as his day job as well, so you will be in good and experienced hands. If you have any queries, don't hesitate to contact us via the "mail the managers" button at the top of the sidebar on the left hand side.
