Please feel free to share your feedback and ideas in our online community, or by using the "mail a comment" link in the sidebar!

Y mae croeso i chi rannu eich adborth a'ch syniadau gyda'n cymuned ar-lein, neu drwy ddefnyddio'r ddolen "anfon sylw" yn y golofn ochr.

Castaway's last production was Howard Barker's The Possibilities, and sheer madness and mayhem it was too!

...the skills on stage gave the material the gravity it needed ... a production of which Castaway should feel proud.

Well done everyone for a fantastic show! I've now sorted out the 'production' page for it, if there's anything wrong or missing please let me know. If you'd like full-size digital copies of the photos there (which I've reduced to 25% of their actual size for the Web) then don't hesitate to contact me.

Well done everyone for an astonishing production! If you missed it, you should kick yourselves. Catrin and I were disappointed that we couldn't be in it, but I think we had a good excuse (for those who don't know, we were on our honeymoon for the last week of rehearsal!)

One quick question - if any one has any digital photos they want adding to the Ubu Cuckolded page on the website, could they please email them directly to me.

My email address is can be easily figured out from : "jim dot finnis at gmail dot com". (I've deliberately written it weirdly like that so that evil automatic web readers can't grab it for their spam databases).

Who are Castaway

Castaway was formed in 1991 by Ian Marsh, a graduate of Aberystwyth University's Drama department, and since 1997 has been run by David Blumfield, tutor in drama at the University. Over the years we have staged over 40 productions, from light entertainment for all the family such as Wind in the Willows and our own adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies; to intensely difficult plays like Sarah Kane's Crave and Phaedra's Love and Genet's The Balcony.

In addition, we have been lucky enough to have works written for us by established playwrights such as Lucy Gough and Dic Edwards.

What's on this Website

Here you can:

  • See a list of all of our past productions, each of which has its own page with cast lists, notes and photographs. Note that a lot of this stuff is incomplete - but we're working on it! If you have any information for us, we'd be glad to get it!
  • See a huge list of all the people who have ever been in Castaway, and what they've been in. Everyone has their own page, and if any of the information is wrong - or you want to add a biographical note to your own page - just get in touch.
  • An online community where you can talk about present and past productions, discuss the theatre in general, get in touch with old friends, or just chat about anything.

Joining Castaway

Castaway is run as an Arts Centre course, and can be booked through the Arts Centre at the start of each season. We run three shows a year:

  • The spring show rehearses from January to March
  • The summer show rehearses from June to August
  • The spring show rehearses from October to December

We've currently started work on a new production, so we're closed for new members, but keep an eye on this page for when we're open.

All are welcome of any age and any level of ability - the vast majority of us have no prior stage experience, so we're open to any level of ability. There's no audition process either - if you join, you'll be on stage in the production; but if you're not too confident you can have as few lines as you wish. Our director, Dave Blumfield, is a tutor in the Department of Film, Theatre and TV Studies, and teaches people how to act as his day job as well, so you will be in good and experienced hands.

If you have any queries, don't hesitate to contact us via the "mail the managers" button at the top of the sidebar on the left hand side.
